Summer's coming at Locals Restaurant

Chef on a Bike July 23, 2016

This summer Island Joy Rides is teaming up with Locals Restaurant to offer a new spin on culinary tourism. On Saturday, July 23rd, we will begin at Locals with a leisurely cycle out to the Farmers’ Market to mix & mingle with local food growers and producers while learning about how Chef Ronald chooses his ingredients.  Guests will then meander along quiet roads and trails to   Blue Moon Farm, Winery & Ciderworx, where owners Marla and George will welcome us into their warm and uplifting space.  As we relax into the afternoon at the farm, Chef Ronald will delight and inspire us with a sumptuous lunch      paired with Blue Moon wine and cider for all of us to enjoy.

Chef on a Bike celebrates local food, active lifestyles, and connections with people and places.

Space is limited to 18 riders.  Please contact:

Seasonal Food Abounds

July is an incredible month for our chefs and cooks, as the Comox Valley is absolutely BURSTING with wonderful produce. The raspberries from Inisfree Farm and blueberries just coming in from Carl at Stoney Bog Farm are simply amazing. Everyone is a sweet, juicy morsel. The strawberries from Bates Beach Farm are a pure treat. Our local fruit is far superior in flavour to any produce that is shipped in from countries. As well, with it being so fresh, the fruit holds its nutritional value better and has a much longer shelf life.

The wild halibut and salmon are simply beautiful this year. We are also enjoying local bison on our mixed grill trio. The Valley is a great place to eat all year round, but even more so in the summer!!

CARSTAR Great Valley Rally July 23rd

Locals is once again supporting our team in the CARSTAR Great Valley Rally with our very own Locals Locos team. Bonnie, Ula, Sarah and Steffanie are serious contenders, when they are not killing themselves laughing. The Rally is modeled after the ‘Amazing Race’ with teams completing challenges at check stops throughout the Cumberland, Courtenay and Comox communities. Each year the Rally benefits a different organization in the Comox Valley. The 2016 recipient is the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association. For more information visit

National Food Day July 30th

Locals will once gain be participating in this nation-wide culinary initative, which will be held on Saturday, July 30th :

“It is a chance for all Canadians to join hands in one massive celebration in praise of our farmers and fishers; our chefs and researchers…and, above all, our home cooks.  You can head to one of our enthusiastic Food Day Canada restaurants to enjoy an unequalled repast or you can plan your own party!  Absolutely Anywhere!   Paddle to a distant shore to light a campfire…barbecue some fish …sweep off the deck for a neighbourhood supper….dig a roasting pit….build an oven … fire up the grill…and use only Canadian ingredients to create a feast or a simple dinner that honours our extraordinary culinary history and points the way to the future, together.

And never, ever be afraid to haul out your soapbox to tell retailers to provide more Canadian ingredients, with hopefully less packaging, so you can eat this way all year round!  Food Day Canada is the time and place for Canadians to share their food and their stories with each other while leading other nations in cultural diversity, food ethics, magnificent flavours … and fun!  We know how to throw a great party, so LET’S SHOW THE WORLD!"  For more information go to:
